The thing that Trump is, again, I talked about this a little bit before, just the way that he kind of will glance off of a real issue in kind of like a weird idiosyncratic way.
The thing that a lot of his advisors are worried about and the reason he's talking about it, other than the reasons we've already talked about, is because of China's growing influence in operating a number of the kind of ports that make up the Panama Canal.
You know, the U.S.
used to own that canal, gifted it back to Panama to administer during the Jimmy Carter administration.
And Panama has gradually given a little bit more control of that to China.
So that's what Trump is bouncing off of.
But the potential here for actual conflict is much larger than than over Greenland, because obviously China is a real foe and they have.
deep interest.
I mean, they have worked hard to integrate themselves as much as they have into that as they have so many other things.
So, I mean, you really do not necessarily want to see a situation where the United States and China are both digging in their heels over
You know, a real squabble over the Panama Canal, which could have all kinds of economic impacts to say nothing of the remote, but I guess plausible possibility, because, again, Trump is not ruling this out of actual war over over who is going to control the Panama Canal.
So that that one, I mean, it is an unbelievably difficult.
People know this, right?
I mean, it's a crucial, crucial shipping lane.
Remember when that one boat got stuck in the Suez Canal in Egypt a couple of years ago?
You don't really know, appreciate how important these things are until suddenly they're not working quite right.
Right.
Snarled shipping lanes all over the place.
