Raphael Pacheco, and our own podcast team as we revisit practical ideas for using AI to support personalized learning, active engagement, and faculty-created course materials.
Our first clip comes from episode 36 with Dr.
David Wiley.
One of the founders of the Open Educational Resources Movement.
In that conversation, Arthur asked him how generative AI has changed his thinking about OER and OER enabled pedagogy.
Dr.
Wiley's answer is useful because he pushes us beyond the idea of a resource as something static, like a textbook, chapter, or handout.
Instead, he asks us to imagine a resource that creates a customized learning experience for each student.
Here's Dr.
Wiley.
Instead of only asking what content do I need to give students, we might ask what kind of learning experience do I want students to have with this content?
It does not mean the traditional materials disappear, but AI may give us new ways to help students practice, ask questions, receive feedback, and connect course ideas to their own interests.
That also raises a very practical challenge.
