It's not completely standard.
Beefheart never liked to have a song all be in four four meter, saying that straightforward rhythms made music into lullabies and he wanted to wake people up, not send them to sleep.
But it's a song with a way in for people unfamiliar with the music.
Part of the reason for the mildly more accessible music, too, is the presence of art trips Marimba.
The marimba is simply not as abrasive an instrument as an electric guitar, and while two electric guitars playing clashing lines are hard to distinguish, a marimba playing one line while an electric guitar goes against it is much easier to tell apart.
The intro to the Smithsonian Institute Blues, for example, becomes basically the blueprint for a huge chunk of Tom Waits' later career.
Lick my decals off baby, actually went one place higher on the UK charts and Trapmask Replica did, hitting number twenty.
That would be the highest any Beefheart album would chart during his career.
Decals was also the last of Beefheart's albums on Bizarre Strait.
By this point those labels were starting to wind up.
Zappa and Herb Cohen would instead form discrete records soon after, and the next few releases would be on Warner Brothers, the label which had distributed Bizarre and Straight and would continue to distribute Discrete.
Mather annoyingly, the contractual difficulties between Zappa and Cohen have tended to mean that the two straight records Beefheart albums, which most fans consider the high watermark of Beefheart's artistry, have tended to be somewhat like the people in the Weatherhouse, with one album being available and the other not.
For most of the period from nineteen seventy five through twenty eleven or so, Lick My Decals Off Baby was out of print while Tramask Replica was usually available.
Currently, while Tram Mask Replica is out of print, decals is readily available, at least digitally.
It doesn't appear to be imprint as a physical release at the moment.
On the subsequent tour, Elliot Tingba rejoined the magic band again on second guitar.
He would be in and out of the band over the next couple of years, performing under the name Wing Deal Fingerling, a combination of his actual name and a phrase from Beetle Bones and Smoking Stones.
Ingber would appear on a couple of tracks on the group's next album, The Spotlight Kid.

The Spotlight Kid was the only album ever credited just to Captain Beefheart, rather than crediting the Magic Band, even though the band members were for the most part the same people who had played on Lick My Decals Off Baby, apart from the addition of Ingber on some tracks.
