I'm Andrew Limbaugh.
The other day, I was rushing my kid out the door to go to church, and I accidentally left my phone at home.
I was about to turn the car around, but we were already late, so I just kept going, even though in the back of my head, I was wondering, oh, man, what if we get into a car accident and I have no phone?
What if my kid flies through the window and I have no way of calling an ambulance?
But you know what?
None of those things happened.
It actually felt kind of nice and liberating to be phone-free since I've been struggling to keep my screen time down.
Willpower wasn't enough.
My environment had to change.
This is essentially the thesis to Angela Duckworth's new book, Situated.
She'd previously written a book called Grit about the power of perseverance, but this new book asks, what if perseverance isn't enough?
She talks to here and now's Indira Lakshmanan after the break.

He's the author of the new novel That Disappears, which has gotten off the charts critical acclaim since it came out, by the way.
The book focuses on a group of gay men in 1980s Jamaica, not the most welcoming time or place for gay men.
