But I was in an isolation room for five, four weeks in hospital.
And I thought that when they said that I could go home after that, I was expecting to die.

But no, it was only the start of the struggle in some ways.
Certainly the first six months at home were really, really unpleasant.
Probably the first year I was very limited in what I could do.
Really in the last six months or so I've started to be able to sort of act a lot more like a normal person.
But I still am dogged with a lot of fatigue, anxiety.
I still struggle to eat a little bit in the evenings.
I still am very, very weak.
I have poor balance.
I have poor stamina.
I'm sort of very unfit compared to a normal person of my age.
I'm hopeful there'll still be some improvement, but the rate of improvement is starting to slow down.
You know, if he needed a stem cell transplant, there wouldn't be a wait at all for that.
Medicines that he might need, there wouldn't be a lack of medicines.
Blood cancer is really dependent on medicines to drive outcomes, and New Zealand's really far behind on the medicines front.
The other thing would be the haematology staff having the time to do a good job and to spend the time that's necessary on each patient.
I think the haematology team for me did a very good job with what they had, but you could just see how stretched they were and unsustainable for them to be pushed to the limit forever.
My father has had blood cancer as well.
