Because right at the start, there tends to be not a benefit of owning a property.
Like you build up your equity, but you can't use that money right now.
You can maybe use it to buy another property.
But again, you're not changing your lifestyle today.
What are you doing it for?
What is your motivation?
What's been the biggest challenge with your investing journey?
And has there been a time where you've thought, oh, God, I don't know if this is actually going to pay off?
Is it worth the stress?
That big cost, especially six months in, when you think it's almost 10% of the property value, did you know that that was something you were going to have to do when you bought that property?
Did you do a building check or was that something that you missed because you didn't know?
So part of your strategy of getting a good deal has to be going with a really clean offer, maybe not the money that they want exactly, but just basically no conditions so that yours is attractive.
Yeah, Ed just recently was on the TV talking about different ways to try and get a good deal.
And one of the key things that he suggested is remember that it's not just about price that people are looking for.
There's other motivating factors that you can maybe use to get a good deal.
One thing that I think is always a challenge when you're getting advice from people is often that advice is tainted by their experiences.
So say, for example.
Ed and I were chatting to a guy the other day, and his friend, who is a bit of a mentor to him in getting him into property investment, he invests in boarding houses.
Now, in this instance, the guy wasn't putting any pressure on him to do the same thing, but often if you've been investing in boarding houses, then that's the strategy that's made you rich, so that's what you want to impart on other people.
Has there ever been a moment between you and your dad, who's obviously been a big part of this journey, where you've had a differing opinion and it's been a challenge to not follow his advice?
