But that's the reality for so many people in this country as a consequence of broken social care.
Then there's the next injustice of having to pay a fortune for this broken care that people get.
So they pay a lot of money for a very poor standard of care.
And some people, the most unfortunate, those who get, let's say, Alzheimer's at an early age, pay with everything down to £23,000 of their savings.
So they can spend hundreds of thousands of pounds.
They can be cleaned out.
by the whole experience of being unlucky enough to get dementia.
The randomness of it, if you've got a cancer, you can get everything paid for, but you get dementia, you get absolutely wiped out physically, emotionally, financially.
It's just...
Terrible, isn't it?
So I don't get overwhelmed by it, is the point I'm coming to, because it can't be worse than that, can it?
Surely we can make it better than that.
People are already paying.
So the money is going in.
It's just being done in the most unfair way imaginable.
It's like American healthcare, the most vulnerable, pay with everything.
And we're okay with that in Britain, the home of the National Health Service.
Well, I don't think so.
And I think if I can get beyond the newspapers who kind of work with the worst point scoring politicians to frighten people about these issues, and it's happening now, given I've raised the issue again.
If we can get beyond that and we can just put the proposals in front of people, some of them might be quite radical.
