It seemed like something out of a TV show.
So basically...
My father-in-law's mother died and she'd been ill for a while and all that sort of stuff.
And we were at the funeral and they're bringing the casket out of the hearse.
And it's just a young fella at the end.
And he flips as he's unloading it and the casket drops on the ground and it's a big bang.
And everyone's like, you know, like I thought it was going to open up.
But the problem was that he was like,
he was literally hanging on like he almost fell into the hole fell into the grave and he he's hanging on to to the casket to try and get himself back up so he wouldn't fall in and like he went like I felt so bad for him he went like so red and all this and it was like a real sort of like oh all the murmurs I just heard a voice at the back going like my father-in-law's name is Derek the voice just gone
Nearly got a two for one there, Derek.
Everyone just burst out laughing and just completely changed the mood of the whole thing.
I mean, it was still sad.
It's a funeral.
But I remember thinking like, what a perfectly timed line to deliver.
It's like something you'd see in a sitcom or something like that.
Yeah, I couldn't, I mean, like, the coffin falling alone was like something I'd never seen before, but just, it was such an Irish, like, it's a real example that I'd give of like Irish humour or Irish culture, you know.
Perfect.
To someone who's not, because like, that's just...
like a little joke just to totally cut through the tension and to, you know, everyone's back and laugh.
Well, not laughing.
