And so you want to be able to get your child from a financial point of view into school as early as you can.

So we did look at quite a broad range of options back in 2018.

I can't actually remember whether we did a public consultation on that.

We are starting to think a little bit about whether cohort entry is something we need to look at again.

There is some quite strong evidence that cohort entry does have some benefits.

So there's the research that Joe did.

There's also a paper from the Education Review Office that says that helps to settle students to get them all starting together as a group and it helps them.

make social connections and make friends more easily does reduce some of that educational inequity.

And to some extent, it makes it easier for schools to administer.

Interestingly, though, countries that do have cohort entry often still have that educational inequity between students who've been at schools for different amounts of time.

So it's not the only factor that's kind of playing out there.

Yeah, absolutely right, Melissa, in the way you frame that.

I mean, you can have a single entry point, so everyone literally has the exact same number of years at school.

I think while we are looking at all the options, that one does have some big drawbacks, and one of them is that it's so inflexible for families.

And also a lot of kids may or may not be developmentally ready at that exact point.

And so I think that's one of the reasons why the English system has had to introduce this other thing, which effectively means that some children can get almost a whole year more than their peers might get.

And of course, for some students when they're teenagers, that may or may not be a good thing.
