So for some very small communities, there's a different set of things going on there as well.
So we do need to kind of have a look at all of that.
That's right.
And actually, any change in this is a really big change for them, but it's also a really big social change.
So we've had the current system, I'm told, back to 1877.
So it's a really long standing cultural thing in New Zealand.
And it's a big rite of passage for families and for children.
And, you know, anyone who's had kids go through that will have really enjoyed the experience of that.
Of course, you could do that with cohort entry too, but it is something that we need to understand where parents and communities are at on it before we go into any change.
No, so we're not at that stage yet.
It's really just something we've started to think about.
We have been prompted by some of the evidence.
It's really important to us that we do follow the best evidence we have.
If it's clear that cohort entry is going to improve schools' ability to deliver the curriculum and to reduce some of those inequities without creating other big problems, then it's absolutely the kind of thing we will be wanting to put to ministers to say, hey, we really think you need to consider this.
um uh and we we do get the occasional person kind of asking about it but i think the thing that's prompted us to start thinking about it again now is the change in the curriculum and what that means for schools and a little bit of water to go under the bridge probably in terms of exactly how that um uh you know is managed by schools and their experience of doing that and we're certainly keen to keep close to them and understand um understand what what's happening for them and um
when the time comes to go out and find out from parents whether their experiences are different now from what they were eight or ten years ago.

Yeah, I couldn't have put that better myself.
But I mean, I think just to sort of put a bit of context around this, you know, some schools have been using the structured literacy approaches for quite a long time.
And so some schools do have some really strong experience of having implemented it.
