And the reality is it's probably not true.

catastrophic disclosure is probably more dangerous in the short term, providing there isn't some sort of cataclysm on the way that we don't know about, in which case it doesn't matter.
They may as well just keep us in the dark anyway.
So that is the other rumor, right?
