First Nations women, for example, we know are 31 times more likely to be hospitalised due to family violence.
We also see financial abuse in culturally and linguistically diverse communities and
amongst people who identify as LGBTQIA+, and people with disability, even right through to small business owners who can be subject to coerced directorships or forced debt.
Yes.
So in 2020, we made a long-term commitment to support people in Australia affected by domestic and family violence and financial abuse.
we want people to know that they're not alone.
And so the support that we have available includes a dedicated trauma-informed specialist team that provides immediate and confidential support.
Things like opening up safe accounts, removing unauthorised access to someone's banking and connecting people with support within the bank, but also outside of the bank.
Also, longer-term recovery through programs like Good Shepherd's Financial Independence Hub,
which we proudly fund and which has seen over 16,000 participants through since inception.
Some of the signs can include being denied money for basic expenses and
being forced into debt or having debt taken out without your knowledge or consent, being asked to show receipts for everything, being locked out of your accounts right through to having your work hours or your income control.
A useful way to think about it is does this behaviour take away someone's choice, their independence or their safety?
And if it does, it is always worth reaching out for support.
So if someone is in immediate danger or not feeling safe, please call triple zero.
If you're not in immediate danger, our CommBank Next Chapter team is available to talk through ways to make your banking safe or to provide additional support.
And 1-800-RESPECT is also available for information and counselling support.
But the first step can simply be telling someone you trust what is happening and reaching out to specialist services for support when you're ready.
Knowing how to talk about financial abuse with family and friends can really make a huge difference to their lives.
And TALK is a really handy acronym to keep in mind.
