But there may be a lot of questions that need to be asked about whether or not those are fit for purpose in the modern age, whether or not they fit with the complexity of modern banking.
I think there's a concern among some of the financial industry sources I've spoken with that they feel that they're having to be the front line of keeping an eye on some of these money flows.
Right.
And that really there should be more emphasis on the need for what was in old school terms, know your customer checks.
So you should know more about the people and check the origin of funds that are flowing into politics.
And I think the big question we face now and what this reporting raises is whether or not.
Does the system do that now?
And just how vulnerable a moment is this for Farage, do you think?
I think we've seen a real shift in the way he is discussed.
Certainly when I'm talking to sources inside the party, it is, well, we think he's in it, he's going to stay in it.
Before there was just no question, Reform and Farage were as one.
There was no party without him as a viable political force.
There's sort of two aspects.
One is that it has grown as a political force.
And the other is that the way in which he has handled various media reports, but also the nature of those reports, has opened up conversations about, is he forever?
Is he always going to be in charge?
Does he really want to be prime minister?
is it always going to be the Farage party?
People are asking those questions and before they simply weren't.
And so I think it's the old adage, well, if you can talk about what happened when the king dies, then you're admitting he's mortal.
