that they're paying more because it's a new item and they don't have anything to compare it to.
During the pandemic, a lot of these companies dramatically cut back on the different sizes, flavors, and other varieties of the packaged foods that they sold because that helped them save money on producing the foods.
And they're saying now that they're not really gonna bring those back.
Mondelez, which makes Oreos and all the Nabisco snacks, cut their number of items by about 25% and they said it's going great.
They can now have more shelf space at the grocery store for more premium, higher priced products.
So it's definitely less choice for the consumer and not necessarily something everyone would notice, but it's a nuance that's there.
That is something that we could start seeing here soon.
A lot of these price increases are just coming into the market.
And Kroger actually was saying that they think that consumers will be okay with these higher prices because they might not notice or because they just know that
Inflation is across the board.
But I mean, worst case for Kroger, people stop buying the name brands and go down to Kroger's cheaper store brands.
And it's a win-win for the retailers.
Some restaurants are actually shrinking their portion sizes, which is something that consumers are really sensitive to, and it can backfire.
And that's been a difficult choice that restaurants have to make.
Do they charge more?
Do they just take a hit to their profit?
Or do they shrink those portion sizes?
And it's been hard for them to get that past consumer's
So in other situations, they're cutting back on the number of items they have on their menu.
And that can also help offset inflation if they replace ingredients that are really expensive or just cut those items off the menu.
