And I think that will then damage politics.

because it just looks like it's all about the Nigel Farage show.

And he's spent a long time, actually, the good past two years, trying to make reform not so much of a one-man band and bring in these high-profile Tory defectors and promote people.

And you have all sorts of other figures doing the broadcast rounds and things for reform, trying to make the party look more professional and less like his own project.

And actually, it just starts to look like the Nigel Farage show again, which...

Maybe the public don't mind because the public who vote Reform like Farage, but in his own party, that's irritating people already.

So I don't think it is good for him.

And I think Reform are best when they're in campaign mode.

They're most comfortable.

That's their comfort zone is campaigning.

But with all of this stuff coming out about him, it's just more and more opportunities to ask him awkward questions and for him to have potentially awkward encounters with the public as well.

I don't think it's realistic.

It was rumoured, wasn't it, for a while?

But it is tricky.

I think they are aware that they don't really have a very strong mandate and they have to stick within the board sort of guardrails of the manifesto.

And that is always difficult for a prime minister who hasn't been elected.

um it i found the most interesting part of his speech outside downing street was the first thing he said was i'm acutely aware that i'm the sixth person or the seventh person to walk up this this street in since 2016 and we've got to do better and the reason he said that is because the public actually don't really like people just walking into downing street um even if they're more popular than the last person um we've we know from polling that people think there should be an election um and i always tell this anecdote i've told it on the new statesman podcast before but um

I remember when Liz Truss, the day Liz Truss resigned, I happened to be out in Middlesbrough reporting.

And it was really interesting because everyone was coming because I was a journalist.

People wanted to know what was going on.
