Because the Treasury, under a Burnham government, so we are to understand it, will be sort of having to serve the interests of Number 10 North and a beefed up prime ministerial operation in terms of giving power away from the Treasury.

And I think John Healy is more convinced by that agenda in terms of the things that he's written and said about regional policy before than Shabana Mahmood or Ed Miliband, who haven't really said much about devolution in their careers.

And

I think there was certainly privately quite a bit of frustration on Mahmood's part when she was national campaigns coordinator when Labour were in opposition about some of the things the Welsh Labour government were doing, for example, like the very unpopular 20 miles per hour speed limit.

So I think that's probably the thinking there.

And also, of course...

You know, he's someone who's served under every Labour leader, I think, since 2010.

So he's a team player in the way that Andy Burnham likes to see himself as a team player.

Obviously, the Starmer people would smirk at that because Burnham has been, you know, Burnham has basically, he's enacted a coup against him.

And John Healey resigned from that government in anger at the fact that he didn't get enough money for defence.

But I think there's certainly an affinity there in that sense as well.

I think they were certainly happy that they managed to keep it under wraps.

And as far as I know, it was a surprise to John Healy as it was to, you know, the rest of us.

Yeah.

And I'm not sure if there was that much of a briefing manipulation game in play from Burnham himself.

I think there's been a bit of frustration because Burnham's team, bear in mind, he was mayor of a region.

He had quite a small team of people around him, of trusted advisors who actually spoke for him.

And I think there was a bit of frustration over the course of the Makerfield by-election campaign and in the build up to him becoming prime minister.

of allies of Burnham saying things on his behalf who weren't actually, you know, party thinking on specific issues.
