First thing we knew, they wanted to cut winter fuel.

OK, that was something that no one, even if you agree that that's the right policy, even if you're not a Labour voter, no one expects that from a Labour government.

People expect a Labour government to spend a bit more money, to be a bit more caring, to look out for the people at the sharper end who are struggling.

That's what we expect from the Labour brand.

So I think he's trying to re-establish the Labour brand.

Also, when you look at the pick for Chancellor, John Healey, there were all these rumours that it would either be Ed Miliband or Shabana Mahmood and that those two appointments would be too divisive because they would either irritate the right of the party in terms of Ed Miliband.

And the left of the party in terms of Shabana Mahmood.

I think there's something deeper going on here, which is who is most convinced by the devolution agenda?
