So I really wanted to use the fact that a lot of people know about my case.

A lot of people know about my win against the ABC.

And I wanted to use my story as a way to tell the stories of other women because a lot of them aren't known and their wins aren't celebrated.

And there's a reason why history forgets.

or conveniently fails to celebrate women who've won.

Right.

And so that was part of a big reason also why I wrote that story and why in real time I pushed back against the narratives about me.

I was like, I'm going to do some counter-narrative in here.

I know a thing or two about media.

I know a thing or two about setting agendas.

So guess what?

I'm not going to just lay down and cop it because that's the expectation for so many women, that you're either shunned from public life, you're exiled, you're imprisoned, your reputation and career are ruined.

And so understanding what this sort of process looks like and what has been used again and again, it was terrifying, but it also was instructive because I was like, hmm, I know how this is going to go and so I'm going to do a counter-narrative here and I'm going to tell my own story.

It's pretty incredible to do that in the thick of it, you know, as well, though, because it's insane.

Yeah.

I think it gave me agency and it gave me a sense of control when so many things were out of my control.

Not only the things that were happening to me, but things that are happening to our democracy and our civil liberties at a time when we are criminalising dissent and we are not...

criminalising or using our diplomatic and legal tools against those who commit human rights atrocities in Gaza and in Lebanon.

We are not using the tools we have to punish powerful actors doing horrible things.

We're going after individuals who wear a T-shirt that says, from the river to the sea, or we're going after someone like me who shared a human rights watch post about starvation as a tool of war.
