Like the Blue Jays are bottom 10 slugging team to this point, and they really are not going to be successful until they start having some more home runs.
and some more doubles being hit.
Like when you look at the Blue Jays extra base leaders, extra base hits leaders right now, I mean, you've got Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
and George Springer like looking up on the list towards Andres Jimenez and Ernie Clement and guys who are not exactly noted sluggers.
Ultimately, like the simplest thing to say is just if Vladimir Grillo Jr.
and George Springer don't perform to their projections, like it's probably not going to be a successful season for the Blue Jays unless like Jesus Sanchez has like second half MVP run in him or just something incredibly unexpected happens.
So that's the biggest thing.
But then you also hear around the team just like a renewed focus on sort of the little things, whether that's quality of plate appearance and your two-strike approach and how you're trying to extend ABs or move runners, if that's aggressiveness on the base paths and taking the extra base, or if that's just playing more sound and tight defensively than the Blue Jays have to this point.
So those are some of the minutiae, I guess, that goes into it.
But the biggest thing really is just the Blue Jays are not slugging.
Well, particularly against the Braves lineup, which yeah, I asked him about it after the game and he was like, yeah, Austin Riley said six guy owns me.
So it's a, it's a formidable challenge.
And like Patrick Corbin has had to really rely on his secondary weapons this year.
Like that's been part of the success is really upping the change up usage.
uh, locating that really effectively to righties and then using the slider a lot more to both righties and lefties as well.
And I feel like last night he just didn't have his best change up.
I wasn't locating it the way that he really needed to, uh, that kind of forced him to some other pitches and his slider is
like a great cold strike pitch or a great land in the zone pitch.
It's really more of like a strike to ball pitch.
So when he was trying to get in the zone with something, it was like four seamer or cutter and his cutter has just gotten demolished this year.
