This is Tango's managing editor, Ari Weitzman, with a staff concurrence to Wales Tick.
I think Will's right to point out Iran's weaknesses in the current conflict.
Especially since most of the awareness we have in the US about the war comes with price increases and body counts.
But
What if there's another path other than the two that we'll laid out or between them?
What if I run and its proxy groups are weak?
But they're still successful at pushing any deal to end the war to the other side of the midterms.
To drop the subjunctive mood here, I think that short term outcome is likely.
The part I have trouble with is what happens next, which depends heavily on the mood of President Trump in November.
If I had to guess, I'd say that Republicans are going to underperform in the midterms and that Trump is going to unleash his frustration with a heavy
Heavy escalation in Iran before any new Congress has a chance to limit his war powers.
Whatever ends up happening in November, I agree with Will about the outlook for October.
The US and Iran are not on a path that eminently leads to the negotiating table.
