The hideous smiles.

Creatures of various sizes and ages scroll by, almost endlessly.

Then everything stops, and it feels like the floor drops out from under me as the room descends quickly.

More scenes, more white faces, more toothy smiles.

Then the scenes stop completely, and I'm looking at a blank wall stream by.

A rock wall, not concrete.

How deep am I now?

The room slowly stops, and a single window moves casually into view, lining up with the window in my room.

All I see is darkness.

Then all I hear is pain.

I clamp my hands over my ears, but it does nothing.

And through the pain comes a voice.

The voice is ancient, so old that the words almost don't make sense.

The pain stops, and in the darkness I see a hint of a face, one that is wider, much wider than the others I saw in passing.

My hands are shaking, and the file folder falls to the ground.

I pick it up and set it on the desk.

I take a few deep breaths, trying to calm myself down.

Just the sight of inmate zero, as limited as it is, makes my heart palpitate.
