I think that's so important to understand the roots go so deep down.
Borders are there, but even just a tree that grows, where is the nourishment really coming from?
And I've always been interested in justice, and that's why I did law, and I went on to do a PhD, because I think that it's important to understand and to be unafraid to challenge authority.
Because with knowledge, the reason why there's so much racism and so easy to ignite hatred is ignorance.
If people understood, you know, why is this, you know, Jamaican person sitting next to me in my class?
I'm going to tell this person, you know, that, you know, go back home.
I'm going to tell the South Asian child that your food smells, you know, your mom smells.
Did you know that the wealth was built on spices that is the base of that curry that that child has eaten?
If you don't understand all of this,
You're going to be ignorant and you will easily be assuaged by people telling you random things or you're going to hate them.
And it's, you know, the fact that, you know, an element in my skin inside has made me a shade darker.
How am I a threat to you?
I bring with me the vibrant culture, the color, the music, the spices.
I bring life inside.
And yet you want to hate me because of the way I look, because of my skin tone.
I pity you.
I want to sit with you.
I want to break bread with you.
I want to tell you about my people.
If you get up from that table having eaten with me and still want to hate my people, I forgive you because that's my culture.
