I'm layered.

I have lots of other things than I am.

But one thing I felt very strongly and I would tell people that I am not standing in some glass ceiling with glass around me.

I want to bring the edifice down.

I want to break every door and every window that keeps out people like me.

Not just women, men and women who are excluded from having a seat on the table, who are excluded.

And for that, I had to use, dig deep inside who I am.

So from my spirituality to my education, to being discriminated as a child and being made to feel unwanted, unloved, surplus in a family.

I clawed myself out of that to victory.

And it's not that it's easy.

I run a different race from a white person, a white man.

I run a different race from a white woman.

Because in my race, I carry cultural baggage, my choice.

But I have to go through fire every time to prove that I'm good enough.

But what happens is I come out glistening like gold.

I know where I need to go.

And this is probably why it helps that at different times I can dig deep into something I learned as a lawyer,

my time in India, understanding the importance of solidarity between women.

So it's not that there's one thing that I can lean on.

I go through storms using different techniques because in the end, I need to get to shore.
