I remember this so clearly.
I remember...
when my brother was born, who was three years older than me.
So I was three.
And everybody came, because then you don't have a kind of Facebook text saying, oh, this is my baby, just arrived.
This was 1972.
And people came and didn't believe that I had a brother, because after the two girls, the boy was born, the heir to the family.
And I remember at that time being confused why everyone called me a liar.
Because my mother did not celebrate.
My parents did not light the house up or distribute sweets, which is a tradition in our culture.
You know, when a boy is born, a lot of sweets are given out.
Yeah.
And often when a girl is born, nothing happens.
No fireworks, no kind of celebration.
Because it's like...
It's almost like a death because the family has now got another burden.
The girl is not so celebrated.
I remember from then on that nobody believed me because nothing happened.
And I think that that and the way that my sister stood by me really transformed things because...
We are very obsessed about color.
