not have any rule breaking and the world would be so much better if everybody always just did the thing that is expected of them.

Yeah, I mean, I think like there's there's different ways to sort of think about the units here.

Right.

So you could think about, you know, society is as, you know, sort of, OK, you have everyone who, you know, feels like they're part of the same culture.

They feel, you know, they're shared norms and, you know, ideas and approaches.

But but you could also think, you know, a little bit more maybe loosely about what constitutes, you know, society.

a group where you could have creativity, right?

So you could have companies or even teams within companies or groups at universities that are looking at certain questions in certain ways.

So I think the unit of analysis is maybe a little bit flexible in a way that hopefully allows for the kinds of good innovation and good challenging to

norms that you know does need to happen um especially when you're when you're in a system that you know might not itself um be uh you know generating that innovation right like if you're in a bureaucracy it's like how do you how do you do things in a new way well maybe you can do things in a new way by suggesting more bureaucracy but um other than that right like um well maybe

I mean, yes, we can certainly apply these analogies right to thinking about like, you know, how do you instead of sort of approaching things that we see as problematic as like, oh, the thing to do is eradicate them.

Instead, we could ask, well, you know, how do we live with something that maybe isn't ideal and accept that, you know, you know, maybe it won't be.

perfect maybe you know there'll be um some exploitation going on but it won't be to the point that it's devastating you know or how can you cultivate um you know a relationship to the point where you know you um you're able to to live with each other um and you know at least you know maybe they're not always doing the dishes but um at least they're you know uh

Not exploiting you on a large scale or something.

Right.

So it's like, what can you live with and what can you not?

I think, you know, in terms of crime, that there are there's a lot of really important work going on right now in.

in terms of looking at restorative justice as a strategy for dealing with situations where people are imposing costs on one another or violating rules.

And rather than focusing on sort of punishment or

you know, putting somebody away, you know, forever, or, you know, even death penalty, right?
