Sure.
So the Department of Homeland Security has been touting high arrest numbers all summer.
We haven't been able to verify or validate any of that because, unfortunately, the combination of ICE's deep reluctance to be transparent with the American people alongside the Republican administration
A recent appropriations bill that was passed along party line votes cut out any of the traditional requirements for basic transparency by the agency.
So we've been left wondering whether or not these assertions were true.
We received some data earlier this week that shows that this is actually true.
They are arresting more people than they are.
have for almost as long as I've been tracking.
There were very high arrest numbers during the Obama administration.
This graph doesn't go back that far, but I will say that this is certainly the highest number of daily arrests that we've seen in at least a decade.
And it doesn't
does symbolize the fact that there was such backlash to, justifiable backlash to what happened in Minneapolis and the change from Kristi Noem to Mark Wayne Mullen that was supposed to coincide with a less bombastic, less inflammatory approach to policing, or immigration policing.
Obviously, ICE is still...
killing people on the streets.
There are still people dying in detention.
But alongside all of that, there is actually a massive push towards enforcement that looks less like Minneapolis and more like the everyday policing that we've seen for decades.
Sure.
And, you know, for communities who are affected, I always want to be a little bit, you know, hedge this just a little bit.
If you're in a community that's affected, it doesn't feel quiet to you.
