And it's important to remember here that Todd Blanche was once a personal lawyer to Donald Trump across multiple criminal cases.

He sat next to Donald Trump throughout his Manhattan criminal trial in which Trump was convicted of falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment.

And now Todd Blanche is serving in the Justice Department.

The Justice Department, a spokesperson for it, has previously said that Todd Blanche would recuse himself.

That means step away from cases in which he has represented someone involved in the case, and that certainly includes the president.

But when it comes to this settlement, he signed an order that was released by the government, basically saying that Trump and his two sons, his two oldest sons, and the Trump organization were cleared of

potential outstanding taxes from the past.

The judge noted that he was the only lawyer that signed that order, basically giving Trump that type of tax immunity.

And she said that she suggested that that was improper.

She said that her decision should be sent to the New York Bar, which is an organization that basically regulates the practice of law in the state of New York.

Todd Blanche is a longtime New York litigator in the past.

So she was implicitly saying that this raises ethical concerns that the New York bar might have an interest in looking at.

The truth is there really wasn't much that was new.

There was a lot, as you point out, a lot of questioning about the Epstein files.

It was a huge focus of the confirmation hearing.

A lot of accusations were leveled at Todd Blanch and at the Justice Department as a whole for essentially, you know, allegedly failing the victims of Jeffrey Epstein.

The DOJ itself said in a memo while Todd Blanch was serving as the deputy attorney general

that Jeffrey Epstein had over 1,000 victims.

And yet one of the senators, Democratic senators, pointed out that the DOJ hasn't charged anyone outside of Jeffrey Epstein and his former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, with committing crimes for these alleged more than 1,000 victims.

And basically, Todd Blanch was asked to answer for that, and he acknowledged that nobody else has been charged.
