And to me it's really striking that you've got an eighty six year old man there talking about depression and mental health.
And we know that's been such a sort of taboo for so many years, particularly for our older generation and organizations like Menshead's been really vital in ending that stigma.
He's described that money is essential and what keeps the doors of mensheds open.
And afterwards it was reported that that le could lead to some mensheds closing.
Now, in response, the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Guayalth, which is responsible for those grants, issued a statement saying no government decision has been made in relation to funding for two thousand twenty five-twenty twenty six and reports to the contrary are inaccurate.
The statement goes on saying all funding and programs in the department are subject to the annual budgetary estimates process.
Which is currently ongoing, and therefore the department can't make any definite future funding commitments at present.
They say that's normal to take that position at this stage of the budgetary process, and they say that funding of the local men's sheds is a priority for the department's ministers.
The statement also says that since 2022, over 2.5 million euro has been provided and distributed to sheds around the country to help running costs.
And um it also says there the association is set to receive almost three hundred thousand euro over a three and a half year period through the screen scheme to support national organisations.
Rising costs are not just hitting us individuals and households.
They're really affecting community organizations.
And they raise funds through different ways.
Some do have subscriptions where members pay dues.
And some branches say they might be forced to raise those costs for members.
Um, I met with um an independent councillor in Dublin, Kevin Breen.
He helped set up one of the newer men's sheds in North Dublin and he pointed out the value for money that mensheds provide.
So that branch was set up about eighteen months ago and meets in Colester Dorney Carney Football Club in the Clubhouse Bar.
Um I spoke to two of the founding members, both called Frank, and they said it's already making a difference, but could have a lot bigger impact if and attract more members if they had more resources.
