It is the most incredible immersion I've had.

And that's what's so wonderful about it is you sort of become haunted by it.
It's so intimate the way she
She touches these bodies and ministers to them and gives them the duties and devotions of those last hours.
And I think the novel talks about the way she stares death in the eye.
And it's not defiant, it's
Compassionate.
She sits there at that edge of life and death, having been there herself and lost somebody.
And we don't know why we're following her and what will become important until we realize that she has ministered to the same family who've lost a mother and then all of her daughters.
And so she will minister to that entire family.
She will say goodbye to each of those daughters, one after another.
And two.
Two of those women will write incredible novels that will echo down the next 300 years.
And she travels through the rest of the book in ways that are entirely unexpected, as a kind of an obsession, as a mythology, as a curse, as a kind of almost literal life infection, as people start to unwittingly relive parts of her life or parts of her novels without realizing it.
She becomes so mythologized that the village in which she lives recalibrates.
