And just last week, we had one of the global tech companies making huge investments in what we call power purchase agreements, so underwriting renewable energy projects.

Eight out of nine of the projects that they're funding include battery storage.

So without data centres supporting the energy transition, governments would have to fund all of it, and that would go to the taxpayer.

This is where we say data centres are actually a catalyst for the energy transition.

So rather than thinking of them as a problem for energy, they're actually helping us drive through this messy period.

So water's a really interesting one.

A quick lesson in how data centres operate.

The computers within a data centre, the compute power produces heat.

That's the by-product.

Like you know when your phone gets hot when you're using it a lot, that's a by-product of

electrical devices, we need to get that heat out of a data centre so that the equipment continues to operate at optimum temperature.

So cooling needs to be used.

There are different ways of using cooling and some of those use water.

So evaporative cooling is one that will use water.

But we need to put that in context.

So water use for data centres in Australia is 0.04% of Australia's water use.
