Dr Liz Reid, vertebrate paleontologist at Adelaide University.

And, Robyn, Liz told me how researchers like her can tell if a bone that they've found in a cave was once part of an owl pellet.

So, say an owl eats a mouse.

The acids and enzymes in the owl's stomach break down the mouse meat, but they also corrode the bones a little.

And it's these corrosion patterns that tell scientists like Liz that the animal, the bone, had been eaten by an owl.

And in some cases, the scientists can identify the species of the owl that ate it based on these corrosion patterns.
