So after Priya's interview with a Parkinson's disease specialist last week about the regulator's decision to restrict but not ban the use of herbicide paraquat and another one, diquat, that story drew some pretty varied responses.

So Sarah, who's a physiotherapist, says, I see a number of clients in rural areas around farms and while they do not all have Parkinson's disease, the majority of them have neurodegenerative disorders such as motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis and different types of dementia.
With the establishment of the new motor neuron disease register, I wonder if we'll notice clusters in farming communities.

And then Bill writes, it's good to air the issues, but some aspects of your expert's contribution need to be refuted.

Our current handling practices and training in handling and application are far superior to other countries.
This would be well understood by the regulator and they would accept experience from other countries with due regard for those circumstances.
If Paraquat were such a risk, it would surely show us some trends when examining age groups.
Certainly, the regulator requires scrutiny, but their methods do not deserve the ridicule of, it's poisonous to plants so it must be a killer.
