A lot of people who have lost their jobs really weren't able to qualify for unemployment benefits. matched

And that was really one of the key things that helped people stay afloat during this time. matched

The federal government rolled out kind of an expanded unemployment program that gave people for a long time an extra $600 per week. matched

Now, if you weren't able to get that extra $600, you really were probably struggling at that time. matched

If you got it, it kind of more than made up for your income in many cases. matched

It expired and it hasn't really been replaced. matched

There's been President Trump signed an executive order that would give people an extra $300 a week, but that has run into some delays. matched

There's really not a clear outlook on another stimulus package. matched

So what you are seeing is more people are starting to struggle now, as in more people kind of joining that category of people that just don't have access to the benefits that will help keep them afloat during this time. matched

One of the things that we've really seen is that the federal government had a pretty generous stimulus package when the recession first began. matched

And that gave people stimulus checks. matched

It gave people expanded unemployment. matched

It gave people reprieve on their mortgage payments. matched

And really, it worked for a lot of people. matched

For people who were able to get all of those benefits, even if they lost their jobs, in many cases, they were coming out even or even ahead. matched

I talked to a lot of people for whom the actual payments that they received more than made up for the income that they lost. matched

And that's something that research has shown has been pretty common during this recession. matched

Those people are people who probably had secure jobs over this period of time, were able to work from home or were able to keep doing their jobs. matched
