Over time.
That's right.
And I think, I don't know about you, but sometimes people will dip into their savings account when they need it.
It's nice to have something that I can't touch that I know that's going to help me in my retirement.
Yeah, I'd probably need to bust out the calculator.
But I think like one year, maybe not too much difference.
But like once you get that five and ten year difference when you started, I think you can notice some difference in the returns you can expect when you need to withdraw it for a first home or when you retire.
uh it's not hard um first things first have a shares account and have a kids account set up under your account um you'll need your birth the kids birth certificate like that's the most important thing um at this stage it's only available to kids 15 and under but you sign up under your kids account and two things will happen um if your kid was already in a kiwi saver somewhere else it'll transfer over to us and they'll take the normal 10 days
if not what will happen is we'll set up a new kiwi server account with ird and ird will hold on to any contributions um for the first 62 days i'm not sure why they do that but that's just the law and then that gets transferred over to us but within those 62 days you can still make contributions to the kids account id will hold them and then it gets sent over to us after 62 days
After 65 years, if it's in a growth fund, it'll be around $26,000.
Wow.
That's amazing.
And maybe the kid gets a paper run after school job, contributing out of that.
It all grows.
You're good.
I love it.
I'd do the same for my kid for hockey.
She scores a goal, she gets five bucks, and then she uses her account.
No, it doesn't.
And we don't want to pressure parents to feel like they have to contribute $400.
