Which contemporary artist do you most admire?
There was a wonderful film, again, Claudia Muller's film, which was in the South London Gallery show that you had, where you kind of curated through this film a kind of imaginary exhibition, which included people like Maria Lasnig and Valley Export, who of course had just recently died.
Tell us about that.
What was the purpose of that exercise and what was it that you were thinking about when you were bringing those artists together in terms of their relationship to
genital panic.

Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
There's a wonderful body of work which I think you began around two thousand four, which involves soil.
And when I look at soil and I'm t I can't help but think about land art and Smithson and Walter de Maria and so on.
Of course you're painting over the soil.
Tell us about how those works in a way interact with the history of land art or earthworks or
or whatever.
They're increasingly important it seems to me in the work that you're making.
They offer a a really rich counterpoint to the paintings on the walls or on canvases or in the architecture and so on, don't they?
Hm.
Absolutely.
There's this strange dematerializing that does happen with the colour through the soils.
You know, we know the soil is fixed to the earth, we know what it feels like in our hands and underneath our feet and so on, and yet by imbuing it with colour you somehow lighten it.
