But it's interesting to me that in a way your work unpicks what activism could be.
in the mode of address to the audience, in the kind of formal languages that you're using to explore political ideas and so on.
It's not anti-activist by any stretch of the imagination, but it equally is not sloganeering.
So you can explore activism as a kind of texture in the work, right?
You can explore that idea of how is my voice performing in this work, that kind of issue, which seems to me to be an endlessly relevant topic in the work.
Yeah.
But it's also interesting that you are dealing very directly with the ways in which regimes have communicated what they want to communicate.
And in a way, you can unpack forms of propaganda and so on through that kind of subtle language and that language of seduction and so on.
I'm thinking particularly of the ways that the mythologies of the Marcoses were enacted through art and the way that you have...
involve that art in your practice as a way of subverting it.
Yeah, that's a fascinating element, isn't it?
The shifting cultures that are your subject matter in a way.
So in a way, your subject matter has been consistent consistently.
But the nature of that subject matter has shifted while you've been making it.
So that must have been a really fascinating and kind of disturbing, I'd imagine, process.
Because when you started making work about the Marcoses, which was the Royal Academy, right?
