But it's interesting because inevitably, especially in the large performances, you can have like hundreds, thousands of people potentially there, especially with such a vast piece like Doom.

Are you aiming for some consensus of meaning or overlapping consensuses, if you like?

Or do you want the field to be completely open in some ways?

Obviously, you're setting up...

scenarios to which they can respond and there must be a certain palette of meanings, if you know what I mean.

But also, you know, the subjectivities of every individual in that room are going to be slightly different.

So I'm interested, do you seek a kind of consensus of meaning or are you attracted by a polyphony of meanings, if you like?

Can you tell me something about the balance between structure and agency?

Because I'm really intrigued by this idea that, for instance, you're in touch with some of the performers or maybe all of them via text, right?

And I'm interested to what extent when you're texting the performers, are you pulling from a kind of range of instructions that exist before the performance?

Or are you improvising those based upon the kind of mood, for instance, in the room or the way that the audience has responded so far to what you've done and so on?

Yeah.

And a big part of the magic, right?

Because if the magic is to happen, what you're doing is entering into a world full of risk.

It's also a world full of trust, it seems to me.

So you're collaborators and you must have a tremendous balance of trust with each other.

So in other words, they know that you're directing them in a way that they can create the magic.

So you know that they are performing in a way that can create the magic, if you like.
