He'd seen the out-of-control rage and hate at Dinkins and had a choice.

He chose the latter.
He said the move to increase oversight on the cops was just, quote, to protect David Dinkins' political ass.
He said Dinkins' policies were, quote, bullshit.
Stiesel, still inside City Hall, heard everything.

The rioters veered away from City Hall and blocked traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge instead.
They threatened drivers.
