And I think a whole lot of people who are thinking through right now, a lot of people are trying to figure out how to keep a roof over their head and buy groceries.
But if you're somebody who's lucky enough to have some extra money, this is time to donate to people, organizations, party committees that you think are going to do really good work to be able to win this fall, because the stakes right now are going to affect the rest of our lives for whether democracy works.
And I know that sounds like a cliche, but I think
It's pretty clear right now that 2024 was one of those years too.
And we're still on a nice edge for whether we're going to have free and fair elections in 2028 and beyond.
That gets determined over these next four months.
And this is time for folks to throw down and do everything they can.
So it does take some money.
But the vast majority of campaign budgets is spent on what they call paid media.
It's ads.
It's digital ads.
It's TV ads.
That's where the lion's share of the money goes.
It is comparatively very inexpensive to pay organizers to build teams of volunteers to do this work on a year-round basis.
That is a sliver of campaign budgets.
Most campaigns don't even do that because this is money that only really works if you spend it early.
A lot of campaigns will hire people to knock on doors in the final weeks.
that doesn't create something that has a snowball effect over time.
What you want to do is invest in real organizing, which means leadership development, finding people who are going to get involved and keep talking to voters that they have relationships with.
