And it is now reared right back, and Trump is back in power.
So this next time when we win, first we got to win.
But when we win, we have to keep going.
And if we don't keep going, then 2030, the midterm elections after the next Democratic president is elected, will take us right back to 2010.
There'll be a backlash.
Republicans will rig all the state houses.
Then they'll rig the congressional maps and they will have tilted the playing field for the next decade.
Back and forth.
Look where we are now.
This is part of why I wrote this as the plan, because there actually is a sequence for these things to happen.
One of the biggest reforms is something that happens through the states.
In 2026, if Democrats win unified control of the battleground states that I mentioned before, they can pass something called the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.

This is my way to pronounce an unpronounceable acronym.
So NIPVIC would basically join a bunch of states together to say, we're going to give our electoral college votes to whoever wins the national popular vote.
And if they do that, it means the end of swing states and safe states.
It means that every New Yorker, Californian, Texan, Wyoming, Wyomingite, everybody's votes count the same in choosing the president of the United States, which would be a revolution in American democracy for the better in so many ways.
It would give people everywhere a reason to organize and get involved in order to affect the most powerful office in the world.
And it would mean that the federal government has to be responsive to everyone on an equal basis in a totally different way.
