I think it really goes back to this idea of connection and to what extent are we making connections between aspects of our lives.

So just as the participants in that study seem to find these hidden connections within these strings of letters, when we ask people, are you able to solve personal problems, the idea of can I make connections between the resources that I have, the allies that I have,

past experiences have I had?

If you're able to make those connections in a more easily accessible way, you're going to feel more equipped to face down difficult personal problems.

And that was a study that we ran where we had people do the hero's journey intervention and ask them, how might you actually solve this problem in the course of the next month?

And then we rated it in terms of how adaptive were the

solutions that were coming up with.

So people who may not have taken the hero's journey intervention, they were sometimes more likely to say, you know, this is a difficult problem.

I just don't think I know how to solve it.

But the people who had done the hero's journey intervention were sort of primed to find more meaning, find more purpose.

They were more likely to try to make those connections, solve their problems and figure out, you know, how do I actually tackle this in a meaningful way?

I have, yes.

It's one of those things that researchers often call what we do, me-search, where you realize that what you're studying actually relates to some profound experience that you've had in your life.

And so, yes, I have absolutely applied this framework to my own life in a way that's really had profound benefits for me.

So, as you mentioned, I had had a really great childhood.

I was headed off as an 18-year-old to the University of Texas at Austin.

I was going to study finance and liberal arts, and I had a great group of friends.

Everything seemed...

great, although unremarkable.

I did not feel like I was destined for any broader sense of meaning.
