If I hadn't failed in so many situations, I hadn't failed when I was 20 years old and had to go to therapy to learn that toolbox that I have in cognitive behavioral therapy where it's okay to let some people down.
It's okay to step back.
It's okay to say no.
Saying no is so important.
I used to think I had to please every fucking person on planet Earth.
But really what you're doing is you're saying yes to something.
And then you're like dragging your feet on it, maybe not doing it in the long run.
And then you're just saying no to them way later and then making them more upset.
Sometimes it's more powerful in that moment to say, you know what?
Honestly, I have too much shit on my plate right now.
And saying yes to you right now, I might do it half ass.
I might never do it in the first place and just drag it out forever.
It's going to do a disservice to me.
Your work, my work, our friendship, and then no is actually the nice thing to say in that moment.
The power of no is so important, and you have to be confident in yourself to say no.
I will tell you this.
I didn't need to write this book.
Like it wasn't a thing I had to do.
Like I wasn't doing this.
This isn't like a money play.
