post-retirement was a brilliant afternoon speaker and spoke extensively in the UK and Ireland and was an unbelievable competitor and it was very, very sad to read a couple of years ago.
David Walsh did a big piece on his dimension and his struggles with that but the reaction to his passing I think showed how
I love the respect he was not just in Ireland, but around the world with teammates and opponents.
And then Philip Brown, you know, Philip Brown was the safest set of hands.
I think, you know, Irish rugby could have had as they went from amateurism to professionalism and how he went about his business, how he treated people, how much he was respected internally and also on a world level dealing with people in world rugby and football.
the Six Nations, etc.
And yeah, just he's a huge loss.
And the way he didn't really get the plaudits because he just kept under the radar.
Because he didn't go looking for plaudits.
No, exactly.
He was just someone that, as I said, people trusted and would go for counsel.
And when he needed to step up in need, he led.
And yeah, condolences to both the Slattery and the Brown family and friends.
Yeah, he's up there with Willie John McBride in terms of how he's seen as being a legend of Irish rugby from that era.
And the great Welsh internationals, the great French internationals speak about him like a god.
And I think...
That was his playing career.
But then what he gave back to charity, what he helped, the amount of clubs he helped fundraise through being part of their dinners, et cetera, and speaking.
He paid back the game over and over again for what he got out of it as a player.
And as I said, I don't think there's a club in Leinster or maybe even Ireland who haven't tapped into that personality and character to help develop their own club.
