I think I was really lucky because mum had given me this example that meant that whatever I did, and this might sound strange, but whatever I did, it was more than what my mum did.

Because, you know, at that point in her life and in society's life, if you were a career woman, you had to be a career man.

And that meant that your children didn't exist.

You, you know, in all stages of life, you acted like a male.

So you didn't talk about your kids.

You certainly would never leave work because one of them was sick.

You know, like all of the rules were living in a man's world.

And I think what I learned was that you can do what you love and have, be a good mom.

And because whatever I did was more than what my mom did, it was this amazing liberation because I knew that

that I was loved and I came out okay.

And I really, you know, there were lots of times where, you know, mum wasn't there.

And it taught me

so many things from I can find a solution to who else, you know, like as kids, we helped each other, the three siblings, we'd rely on each other a lot.

But we also just, you know, we were cooking meals from the age of nine for dinner.

I knew how to do a hem on my pants.

I, you know, we could, we worked out how to do everything.

And like my kids, when they started school, you know, they walked to school and I didn't drop them every day.
