Another way of thinking about that access is to think about preferences, which is another sort of way about talking about the same thing.
And yeah, I think the example that I know
a lot of people find kind of easiest to get their head around is you know we know that extroversion and introversion are relatively stable personality traits over over long periods of people's lives and this is not a this is not a brilliant novel insight right this is a very well known and we have psychometric tools that can assess that pretty pretty rigorously and
So if you're asking people to develop capabilities which really rely on extroversion as being a vital thing, and things like networking extensively is a good example of that.
It's not that people who are low on that axis can't do it.
If I say low on that preference, perhaps can't do it, but it takes them a lot more energy.
Those people for whom, as it were, it's a high preference, or you could say it's part of their personality.
You can say it comes naturally.
All of these things are in some way equivalent.
It takes them much less energy to do.
And so they tend to be much more effective at it.
So just a kind of way of thinking about that axis, which perhaps resonates with people a little bit.
yeah the what happens a few months later right um if you if you ask sorry go ahead go ahead i was just you know if you if you were demanding of people you know to consistently display a set of behaviors based on capabilities which are low on their preference scale it is very draining of energy for them and this is where you risk driving people into a kind of burnout situation because
You're asking them to do stuff which is just fundamentally very hard for them in terms of their personalities.
Yeah.
Sorry about it.
And just to come back, because I think, Benny, you slightly kind of skated past it in an earlier remark, but it's so true, is a lot of the time the high performers can't articulate that to you.
They just do it.
They don't know they're doing it.
They can't explain what they're doing or how they're doing it.
