Switzerland shut down non-human primate research as far as I know.
It's very expensive to do in the US.
The National Primate Centers used to be a big piece of research in this country for everything.
The development of birth control was tested in non-human primates.
They're the closest model to us.
Now, I have to say, I'm not saying this to protect myself.
I'm saying this because I truly feel
I think the need for justification to do work on non-human primates has to be very high.
They are very much like us.
I've interacted with these animals a lot.
Does it hurt them when they do it?
Yes.
It does.
They do what they can to minimize pain, but it absolutely does.
I mean, having a, you know, a stereotax implanted in the head, injections into the eye, there's no way to do that completely painlessly.
And, you know, that's tough.
