He missed the next four months.
But if you take that last 10 games of the previous year and then the first 21 games of this past year, he was on a 50-go pace on top of killing penalties, on top of being just fantastic on the forecheck, on the walls.
You know, he actually got a good score from some distance.
I don't think it's a coincidence that on December 1st, again, the day he got injured, the Flyers' power play was at 19%, and by the end of the year without him, it was down at the bottom of the league again.
So they missed him a ton.
Great question.
I mean, the first part of it is what kind of shape does he report to camp in?
He was, by his own admission, out of shape when he came to camp last year.
He reported to camp with reportedly, or the word around the team was, about 22% body fat.
That's unacceptable.
That won't happen.
That won't happen again.
From all indications, he's taken that seriously and can report to camp in much better shape.
So I think that will snap into place, which will help him get up to a faster start than he did this past year.
The other part of it being, okay, how does he adjust to the game?
Particularly, people bring up the defensive side of it.
He doesn't back check consistently enough.
Honestly, I think he can do enough.
But really kind of where he butts heads sometimes with Rick Taka is how he comes through the neutral zone with the puck and how he enters the zone.
There's a lot of risk there in his game.
