Now, where the labor market does change over time and how people's working arrangements change or their attitudes to the labor market, the questions that we're asking are still quite detailed and specific.
So they do enable us to pick up on some of those changes.
We also, beyond just the the concept.
Of um core questions to work out whether someone's employed or unemployed or not in the labor force, or if they're employed, are they fully employed or are they underemployed?
Beyond those, we also ask a whole range of questions periodically to really do these kind of deep dives into to understanding the way that people are working, whether it's um to what extent they've changed um changed jobs or the working arrangements around working from home.
Or whether they're on call.
the the hours that they're working and how those are changing over time.
That that ensures that we've got enough granularity in the information that we're collecting that we can actually understand how the labour market's changing.
And and changing in a way that really doesn't impact on the comparability of things like the unemployment rate or the participation rate.
I I I nerd out on these numbers like like everyone else.
I I think um
w would be given how
major the impacts of the pandemic were, where we saw these r really horrible shocks, hundreds of thousands of people being um you know, l losing their jobs.
Uh we saw even bigger numbers of people
uh losing hours and and being kind of temporarily stood down, seeing a whole range of really challenging ways that people were um adapting to uh a whole range of economic and social um conditions.
Um but then also just seeing how quickly everything reverted back to to really being on the kind of long term trend.
So I think the resilience in the Australian Labour
market was was certainly a a surprise and and I think it's still a surprise for a lot of people.
Um
Coupled with the fact that so many labor market measures and not just the ABS data, whether it's labor force data understanding labor supply or job vacancies data looking at labor demand, but a whole range of labor market information that's produced within the ABS and beyond the ABS continues to show that it's a tight labor market.
