Which sounds, you know, to somebody in their early twenties to re enlist like that sounds like a pretty good deal.
Yeah.
But you could walk out.
On your last day.
Walk back in the same shop.
The same office essentially.
The next day working for a contractor or like the NSA, doing the exact same job, wearing Civi clothes and your salary would double.
You know It was like, wait a second, I can do the same job, which is kinda cool.
Get paid double.
Wear CV clothes, not have to PT after work, you know, not have the extra responsibilities of leading a platoon or whatever other billets you might play within the command.
And so a lot of people did that.
Came back to work the next day, doing the exact same job in civvies, making a lot more money.
And I I was like, Man, this is a real waste.
And
if you did a cost at benefit analysis, it would make a lot of sense, I would think, and this is sort of the premise of the paper, for the Marine Corps to spend more money trying to retain
who they spent so much time and resources getting to the point where they can even do the job.
But I left and came home and jumped into the real estate business.
