When I was auditioning for, why am I can't remember any names today? The Audrey McDonald play that she did is written by Aaron's and Flaherty, Ragtime. And they do this thing where before you give them your headshot, before you give them your resume, you all just stand in a line. And they just go, no, no, yes, no, no, no, no, yes. And then they trim it down, and then they look at your resume.
They don't even look at your resume yet. Can you imagine how hurt I was when I showed up dressed like a fucking – I was wearing the outfit. I was like, they're going to pick me. I had on a vest. I looked like I was in fucking Ragtime, the musical. And they looked me in my beautiful 22-year-old brown eyes and said, no.
And I had to walk onto the streets of New York City and take the train back to Queens. That sucked. I hated it. But it's true. They just decided up front. You know, one of my biggest, when I first moved to LA in 2020, I auditioned. I've actually never, this is an exclusive.
Gang, gang. So I moved to L.A. because I moved here for a boy. Let's keep it a book. I moved here for a boy. We're not together anymore. He was so hot. I would have done a lot for him, and I did do a lot for him. And I moved all the way to L.A. I told myself it was because I got a small starring role on Lucifer, which I did do. I got a role on Lucifer. Oh, fun.
And I was like, I'm moving for this. Baby, no one moves for a cameo. You don't move to be a day player. I was more than a day player, but I had like two or three scenes. You don't move for that. You know what I mean? Right. But then I was like, I was here. I was doing the audition thing. I actually got cast. in a show as a principal actor on Fox.
I had never had... I was like, this is crazy for me. It was a show called... It was a show about dancing, and it was called... I can't remember the name of it. Maybe Fox show about dancing. It was a show. It was a scripted show. You're going to Google. It was a show about creating a reality TV show about dancing.
The Big Leap. It was called The Big Leap. I was cast in The Big Leap. I got the offer. It was a beautiful offer. And I had to say no.
Because I was doing We're Here on HBO. They were filming the pilot when I was filming one of our episodes.
And I was like, I cannot believe that I got cast in a show and I had to actually say no.
Yes, I was devastated. I have actually never said that. Then I went back and I watched the first two episodes and I watched the trailer and the guy they have, who's apparently a really, really great actor, by the way. When I tell you, he looks just like me. He dresses just like me. I was like, this is crazy. He's probably out there still scooping up all the rolls I can't figure out.
That's the guy right here. Yeah. Looking just like me.

Well, I will say this. First of all, I know this sounds like crazy, but in the open, when you slate, be yourself.
Don't try to neutralize yourself. Some people want to neutralize themselves so they can fit into the character. But for some of us who are not famous for our acting, we're often being cast because of who we are.
And then it's a bonus that we can act.
So they want to see that Drew a follow. They want to see that personality before you get into the acting scene. Because more than likely, if you're being called in for a role, that character is probably just like you.
